Q104.3: Glyn Johns Shares His Rock and Roll Adventures

Famed rock and roll producer, Glyn Johns has worked with the likes of Led Zeppelin, the Eagles, The Rolling Stones, The Who and Eric Clapton just to name a few.  The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee details his rock and roll adventures in his new book: Sound Man.
Johns recalls his fast paced work schedule. “Fortunately I kept diaries for work purposes just to see where I needed to be when and it wasn’t anything to do with my personal life but it did enable me to look back and see what I was doing when..and I was absolutely shocked,” said Johns.
Johns definitely enjoyed his hectic rock and roll lifestyle.  “If I wasn’t in the studio I was in a plane somewhere; I certainly had a great time,  it didn’t seem to bother me then and it certainly doesn’t now,” said Johns.
One of Johns’ busiest stories includes going straight off a flight to the studio for an all night session with The Stones until 6AM and then to the Albert Hall that evening to record Jimi Hendrix in concert and recording with The Beatles the following day.
Fans can look forward to more of these action packed rock and roll narratives in Sound Man.

Drumhead Magazine: SOUND MAN

Glyn Johns was born just outside London in 1942 and came of age at the dawn of rock and roll and the British Invasion. His introduction to music came about at a church youth choir, and his teenage years were spent discovering jazz, American folk, and blues; forming and managing local bands; and borrowing his sister’s record player. When he landed a job as a sound engineer at IBC studios, Johns was suddenly surrounded by professional musicians and technicians, and in the coming years discovered in himself an aptitude and enthusiasm for the work.
